Role

Multimedia Designer & Embedded Software Developer

KEVIA is an interactive robot that was showcased as part of Detour HK 2021's exhibition. As the software engineer and multimedia designer for this project, I played a pivotal role in bringing KEVIA to life and creating a captivating interactive experience.

In my capacity as a software engineer, I was responsible for developing and managing KEVIA's technical systems. This involved working with embedded Linux, embedded C, ROS Melodic, ESP32, and STM32 to enable the robot's autonomous functions and tracking capabilities. I also leveraged my expertise in machine learning to develop models that drove KEVIA's emotional interactions, allowing the robot to respond to and engage with users in a meaningful way.

As a multimedia designer, I was tasked with designing key visual elements for KEVIA. This included creating the physical outlook of the robot, producing promotional posters for the exhibition, and designing over 30 facial emotion expressions that KEVIA could switch between based on its emotional state. Using tools like Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, and Photoshop, I brought these graphic assets to life, enhancing KEVIA's ability to express emotions and establish a connection with its audience.

Thanks to the comprehensive software architecture I engineered and the emotionally intelligent graphic assets I developed, KEVIA was able to autonomously engage with and captivate people at the exhibition. The project was recognized for its outstanding design and innovation, receiving the prestigious Design award at Detour HK 2021. KEVIA's presence and interactive capabilities left a lasting impact on visitors, showcasing the possibilities of robotics and multimedia design in creating immersive experiences.
